Can You? is a children’s book written by Bonnie Newell that I illustrated. It invites readers to engage in physical movements while introducing them to children around the world. It was key that the illustrations capture the reader’s attention and encourage them to participate in a warm, friendly way, so I placed the characters prominently in the foreground and gave them welcoming, energetic expressions. The author also wanted the children to be depicted in their culture’s traditional dress and to highlight a key landmark or monument from their country. Younger children can interact with the question “Can you?” and mimic the characters, while older readers are given an introduction to cultures around the world.
